The keycard is a small handheld device that fits into the palm of most sentients and is essential for those who wish to protect their privacy. Sometimes taking the form of code cylinders, they can either be manually inserted or read remotely by some door sensors. Keycards can be used to secure almost any entity. The most common uses are to give someone access to a home, hotel room, or storage unit. They may also be used to circumvent the many different passcodes used for different vehicles and ships in one’s collection.

However ubiquitous and convenient, keycards have several vulnerabilities. Because of their size, they are easily misplaced. Should someone unvirtuous obtain your keycard, they will have access to any buildings, vehicles, ships, or safes connected to it. A growing black market has made keycards popular targets for pickpockets and thieves. Because of high rates of loss or theft, many governments remind their citizens to change their passcodes frequently.
