The EVS construction droid first entered production during the reign of Galactic Emperor Drayson, shortly after the fall of the Galactic Republic. At first, it was thought that the construction droid was created to help shape Emperor Drayson’s vision for an Imperial Coruscant by replacing iconic Republic buildings with those of a more Imperial design. However, the true purpose was not nearly as sinister as rumored. Instead the EVS was commissioned to demolish older buildings, freeing up valuable space for new and better facilities. The EVS is especially popular on planets like Coruscant and Mores where overcrowding and constant demand for urban space are major issues.
The EVS is a colossal vehicle, dwarfing many of the structures it consumes. It closely resembles, and largely functions as, a sort of mobile grandiose factory that trudges its way across surrounding real estate. The EVS is limited by its size which makes the vehicle extremely slow and awkward to maneuver. The EVS destroys unwanted buildings by using its two front-mounted, mammoth arms. It scoops any salvageable wreckage into a mouth-like gap located at the front of the vehicle. The wreckage is then recycled; an action which drastically decreases the environmental impact of the EVS and provides some of the required material for new construction projects.
The interior of the EVS resembles that of a large foundry. Waste is carried through the interior to huge furnaces where recyclable materials are smelted and extracted for future use. This means the entire reconstruction cycle is self-sufficient, as parts for new buildings are created from the waste of older structures. However, several systems used by the EVS have become “glitchy” in recent years. Thus a small skeleton crew is constantly required to watch over the EVS and reprogram it when necessary.
